This Children's book is a beautifully illustrated story set in the mountains of Pennsylvania. Follow the life of a little winter bird named Jack who is a grey and white junco. As the little bird's family grows, children are introduced to a caterpillar, a nymph, and a cricket among other insects. Secretive nocturnal animals of the forest appear in the story just before the little bird becomes entangled in a bramble bush and learns some very important life lessons. The book is 50 pages long and has nearly as many hand drawn illustrations of heartwarming scenes in the Appalachian mountains. The heroes of the story are an outdoorsman and his dog named Comet. The book concludes with a study guide for children and an epilogue for parents.
